Privacy & Data Policy
Last updated 18 June 2026
oohula is a language-coaching app made by Die Digitalen GmbH, Switzerland. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have. Questions? Email hello@oohula.com.
The short version
- You can use oohula without an account — no email or name required.
- Your voice is analysed, then discarded: pronunciation recordings are measured on our servers and never stored.
- We use anonymous analytics — no advertising identifiers, no cross-app tracking, no selling your data.
- You can delete everything from inside the app, at any time.
Accounts and how you're identified
When you first open oohula, the app creates an anonymous account — an opaque identifier with no personal details attached. To help your progress survive a reinstall or a new device, that identifier is stored in your private Apple iCloud key-value storage (a short token, not your learning data). If you choose to, you can later link Sign in with Apple, Google, or a magic email link to sync across devices — that is the only point at which an email address might be associated with your account.
What we store about your learning
For each language you study, oohula keeps the material that makes coaching personal:
- Your level, goals, and a memory of the patterns and mistakes worth working on.
- The concepts and vocabulary you've encountered, and your session history.
- Usage needed to operate the service fairly (for example, daily activity counts).
This data is kept on our servers so your coach can pick up where you left off. It is tied to your account identifier — not to advertising profiles.
Your voice and pronunciation
When you practise pronunciation, your recording is sent to our analysis service, processed in memory, and discarded once the result is ready. Only a structured result — which sounds were close, which to work on — is kept, so oohula can coach you. We do not keep recordings of your voice.
In hands-free conversation practice, your speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition — on your device where the hardware supports it, and otherwise on Apple's servers. We don't store the audio.
Coaching content and the services we rely on
The coaching itself is generated by a large language model. To produce each turn, the relevant parts of your language memory and the current conversation are sent to our providers. We work with a small set of subprocessors:
- Anthropic — the Claude model that powers coaching. Your content is not used to train their models.
- ElevenLabs — text-to-speech for example words and sentences (target-language text only, no personal data).
- A speech-analysis service — measures your pronunciation recordings and discards them; it does not store your voice.
- Apple — the App Store, subscriptions, the iCloud token used for reinstall recovery, and speech recognition for hands-free conversation practice (on your device where supported, otherwise on Apple's servers).
- Fly.io — our hosting and database provider (primary region: Frankfurt, EU).
Analytics
We use privacy-respecting product analytics to understand how features are used and to fix problems. These events are anonymous — no advertising identifier, no tracking permission prompt, and no profile sold to anyone.
We also collect crash and error diagnostics — technical details about failures — so we can fix problems quickly. These reports aren't tied to your identity and are never used to profile you.
If you found oohula through an ad on the App Store, we ask Apple's AdServices attribution service once, shortly after your first launch, which Apple Ads campaign the install came from — campaign, ad group, and keyword identifiers only. This tells us which searches bring learners to oohula. It uses no advertising identifier, requires no tracking permission, and is never shared or used to profile you.
Device integrity
To protect the service from abuse and fraud, requests are validated using Apple's App Attest, which confirms they come from a genuine, unmodified copy of oohula. This is a security measure and does not track you.
Your rights and choices
- Access & portability — your learning lives in the app's workspace, browsable any time.
- Deletion — open Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently erases your profile, language tracks, vocabulary, sessions, and memory. It can't be undone.
- Sign-in — linking an account is always optional.
If you're in the EU/EEA or Switzerland, you have rights to access, correct, and erase your personal data and to object to certain processing. Contact us and we'll help.
Children
oohula is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We don't knowingly collect data from children below the age of digital consent in your country.
Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app.
